Electric blankets are alot safer now and our local fire station hold testing days for them at the end of summer so you can get it checked for peace of mind.
I got a new one recently for ebay as i couldn't find a cheap kindsize one best £22 i've spent and just as good as the £40 one it was replacing (which hubby bought me as a gift when we were going out, it's no wonder i married him)
Could you tell me which one you got and who the seller was?

Managed to get a fleece kingsize dual control electric blanket for £10, had noticed them for £20 on Friday and no SEL so price checked it. I guess a staff member was supposed to change the SEL but decided against it maybe in a hope they would still be their at end of shift.0
