insurance more expensive for me

I would love someone to explain to me why this is the case - currently have a car insured through Aviva. My OH owns the car, and we are both named on the policy. He's going to be working away, so I thought I might as well put myself on the policy as the only driver, assuming it would be cheaper than having two of us on.
Here's how it worked out
- him as main driver, me as 'spouse'. Cheap.
- me as main driver, him as 'spouse'. Slightly more expensive.
- me as only driver. More expensive again.
We're both in our 50's, both have maximum bonus, and neither of us have any speeding convictions. We even have the same occupation!! Why am I more expensive than he is??

No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...

You say 50s which suggest you are not the same age?
You say neither of you have any points, do either of you have any claims in the last 5 years? How is your comparative credit ratings as I believe Aviva do use it as a rating factor?
How are you doing these quotes? Online or over the phone with them? If its online it could be a fraud detector triggering from you manipulating quotes0 -
It's been suggested that if there is only one driver on a policy, they are more risky on a long journey because there is no-one to share the driving with; and this is factored into premiums, but I don't know how true that is.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
We belong to the Earth0 -
I did it over the phone, and the person I was speaking to couldn't explain it. We have had no accidents, and I'm 52, he's 54. Our credit scores are almost identical (within about 5 points) too. If it was just a couple of quid, it wouldn't bother me, but it was about £50!!No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

One option is it is simply a pricing sensitivity test that one of you are triggering.
Insurers semi randomly load and discount peoples premiums so that they can test peoples pricing sensitivity and thus predict the outcome of any premium changes.
It has to be semi-randomly so that discounts (like 10% off online) are valid. Most insurer's Ive worked on this with have used the postcode as the seed for the randomisation but in theory birthday could be too.
With the last company I did this with 30% was the spread from those receiving the largest discount to those with the largest loading0 -
