Morning,
im quite lost here and hoping people can help. I managed to let some tea towels catch fire last week after cooking breakfast, the 1st i knew was when my fire alarm whent off.
The damage is suite small really - a 30cm burn on the worktop, a damaged door and slightly damaged carcus. about a 20cm burn on the laminate and a melted oven cover.
The people at paymentshield and RSA said my insurance means they will only replace the damaged parts which means i could end up with a completely different worktop and door as my doors have a slight pattern to them.
My issue is that the kitchen is actually built on top of the laminate so i expect them to say they wont replace the laminate either as it will mean removing the kitchen which is quite old and will then probably need completely replacing.
Im sorry if im being vague but this is totally new to me, theyve appointed crawford and co to come and look tomorrow.

This is unfortunately one of the major limitations to standard policies that you do not have cover for matched sets/ pairs.
The difficulty to access the laminate however cannot be a reason to reject the claim.
The FOS has previously ruled on complaints about this policy term that the insurer should contribute 50% to the replacement of the remainder of the set, where appropriate. It'll put you in a better situation than the technical wording of the policy does if the units/ worktop cannot be matched but in the future it is one clause to look at and decide if its worth paying extra to get set coverage0
