Change the lock barrels, you don't know who had the keys.

Fit a burglar alarm, everything going into the house will have been 'noted'.

Buy some credits at 192.com to find out the names of neighbours and if any have CCJs etc

In regards to decorating it's all cream walls and brandnew cream carpets so pretty straight forward and blank canvas for moving in.
In the long run, a little bit put to your taste and done well is much better than a rush job covering everything.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Make sure you mark your boxes clearly re which room they want to be in; ie you don't want 40 boxes of stuff in your lounge if some are for upstairs/kitchen etc.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time

I see you have new cream carpets in your new place; buy some heavy duty polythene and tape it down to keep them that way.

Label sides of boxes, not tops. Whether you or removals co.

That way when stacked against a wall, you can immediately see what is in what box without having to play box tetris :)

Best to start a new thread - especially as it's a completely different subject!

Generally, people advise to check freecycle, ebay, local papers, etc - or to use boxes from local shops. Most dismantle, but you might manage to pick up quite a collection if you start early. Careful they're solid enough!

  • I can only say similar to others.

    My list is:

Survival box: Kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, spoon, biscuits (keep people happy who are helping) toilet rolls, and cleaning products, along with screws for furniture (in envelopes). Pack all chargers and electrical small goods i.e ipods etc in one box with tape on the charger to easy label.

Keep with you important numbers i,e solictor, ea etc you may need these. keep all passports birth certs etc with you.

Have clean beds the night before an black bag them per room.

Take all the above things in a car with you.

My first thing i do when i arrive in a new property is open the kettle box, i have to keep people happy, then fix up the beds, after a long day you dont want to be doing this in the evening.

Think about food for the evening, it's easy to forget so get a local takeaway menu.

Order a food delivery for the day after arrival, this will give your fridge/freezer time to settle and also save you a trip to find the local shops.

Contact your phone line, broadband and i.e sky as soon as you have your completion date, will help avoid connection delays.

Print room name and attach to the doors as written on the boxes, will help removals and save them putting things in the wrong rooms or constantly asking where it should go.

I'm planning on packing a suitcase per person with clothes for a few days, will help if we dont get all clothing into wardrobes etc.

Permanant marker all sides of boxes.

Dont forget to take gas/electric readings upon leaving and arrival.

Wine for the evening...you may need it with that takeaway after a long day :)
  • I always believe that carpets play a vital role in decorating a house... no matter whether you have tile, marble, parquet or wooden flooring. Especially carpets enhances the furnishings of your home....Might I also add that only by having a good rug in your living room won't make your hose beautiful. You will have to maintain the carpets by cleaning them periodically...
