Which development is it exactly you're looking at?

  • I live in MK and I too am really surprised that with that budget, and a 20 mile radius that's all you've found! There are a number of new build developments (if you specifically want new build) within a 20 mile radius that aren't in 'not very nice areas' and are within that budget.

Personally I think that service charge seems quite high given that by your own admission, there don't seem to be many communal areas. I live in a 7 year old flat in MK and my service charge is £70 a month including insurance etc. and it's a proper block of flats, with communal areas (stairs, garden etc). I would also be extremely cautious of the fact that there's supposedly no definite management company yet, but at the same time they seem to know exactly how much it's going to be...that would definitely be suspicious to me.

Ideally I wish I could buy a house to avoid stupid management fees, but cannot afford one unfortunately. There are some flats in central Milton Keynes that have £200 per month service charge. I heard of thing like rights to manage, if half of residents aren't happy etc, just don't wanna have to do all this as soon as I move in. Plus some flats will be avilable on shared ownership (not my direct neighbours) but in the same building, so how would I find half the owners? I m really confused and panicking about the service charges (the only thing that puts me of the flat), and I m very fussy, I ve viewed quite a few properties within a 20 mile radius!

At your budget you can afford a house in or near Milton Keynes. There are plenty at that price range, avoid the service charge and jump past the living in a flat stage.

Depending on what you class as a nice area, to me that means young professionals, little or no anti social behaviour, the type of place where your neigbours say hello but dont pop round all the time, there are loads of places within 20 miles on MK where you can get a 2 double or 3 bed place buy freehold for your budget.

Just my opinion but have you considered,

Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

I live in Nottingham - just bought a flat and the service charge is £90 a month. That covers buildings insurance, cleaning (communal areas every week), on-site caretaker, lifts servicing, grounds, maintenance etc.
It's three 60's built blocks so largeish complex and needs upkeep.

Your £110 seems a lot for a new brand new build that probably isn't going to require much maintenance for a while.

yeah, one of those looks really impressive, but maybe a bit too far to MK?
Was trying to find something maybe within one of the villages nearer to MK rather than nearer to Northampton...
    Sorry to be a pain!
