Car Insurance and Driver Awareness Courses

I have just spoken to my insurance company to renew my car insurance. Whilst going through the questions, one of them was had I had any driving convictions, fixed penalties or been on a driver's awareness course in the last three years. The question had never included driver's awareness courses etc, and I went on a driver's awareness course for a speeding offence two years ago. At the time I asked the person conducting the course whether this was something I needed to inform my insurer of. - I was told 'no', as the course overturned the conviction. However, due to the question being asked by my insurer today being specifically related to Driver's Awareness courses, I obviously had to be honest and tell them, which then brought the cost of my insurance policy up by about 7%!! I believe that this is the same amount as if I had taken the points against my licence and not done the course! Whilst I would have done the course regardless as it actually taught me a lot, I wanted to let everyone know that this is something insurers are now starting to ask, so if you do a driver's awareness course to save money on your insurance, you probably won't!! I wondered if anyone else had come across this? Also, maybe insurers should start rewording their quote questions, so as not to catch us out. What does everyone think?

I would guess you are insured by one of the admiral group of companies. They were the only one asking the question but others may have followed.

The person conducting the course was probably correct at the time.
