stopping car insurance while at university

Is it possible to stop and start your car insurance within the year?

My daughter will be starting in a city university in October and intends to use public transport where necessary and leave her car at home for when she comes home during uni holidays

She will need to sorn then ask her insurer to suspend cover.

If they do this then she will get a premium refund when she goes back on cover.

If they wont suspend it then maybe leave it running? The cars insured if anything happens to it whilst she is not using it and its there ready when she pops home?

She will earn no claims also. If its cancelled then no extra no claims for the incomplete year.

It is a modification to the policy, for which a fee will be charged. The benefit will be limited as the rebate may well not be near the charge to suspend. Add to this if anything happens to the car in storage, the risk remains hers.

Even if you modify cover to off-road, the cost benefits may still not be worth the effort, and all this assumes the vehicle is SORNd and stored on private land.
