Using car for work

Hi all,

Any rough idea how much extra changing insurance to include use of car for work would cost. Mileage wouldn't change (this role is closer to home) and it wouldn't be being used day in day out for work, just occasional visits in the local area. Obviously the insurance co needs to know this but was wondering if there is any sort of rough idea available?

Very little (assuming you don't have a highly insurance rated job).

There may be admin charge to pay for a mid term change though.

Excellent, that's good news. Shouldn't be too high on the insurance scale.

It varies. Some charge more than others. If its too much then swap insurer.

BUT ask about the costs and charges 1st...

Check as your policy might already include business use. My previous one did, although this time i had to specify i needed business cover. In any case i always ring them to check im covered for my specific job.

Thanks everyone. Currently the policy definitely doesn't cover business use so will def have to have it added. Shall see what they say when I give them a call.

    Thanks for the input everyone!

Certain insurers disappear from confuse the meercat when I request business cover. As long as your insurer is prepared to offer business cover, the additional cost should be minimal for a "normal" occupation.

However, if you are with a firm which does not offer it, a mid-term cancellation and new policy may be required, increasing the costs.
