Maidera

Hi everyone, hope someone can give me some tips or advice.

OH and myself are thinking of going to maidera this year for a week or so, but we are interested in a quieter smaller hotel, and preferably couple friendly, not too far from the beach and the airport.
Could anyone suggest a travel firm that would be able to come up with somewhere that would mainly cater for couples, we would either go in june or sept, before or after the school hols.

If anyone has been to maidera, what did you think of it, what hotel did you stay at.

Many thanks in advance.

I'm going to Madeira next week so I might have some info for you when I get back. We're staying at this place (http://www.qdvmadeira.com/index.php) which looks beautiful and seems to be a really reasonable deal. It's not that near the airport though. When I was researching it I looked into Brightwater Holidays (http://www.brightwaterholidays.com/overseas/os_mad_fit/os_mad_fit.htm) but didn't go with them in the end, you could have a look there.

Ps, you know there isn't really a beach on Madeira, at least not a sandy one? If you want that you'd be better going to the neighbouring island of Porto Santo.

We go to Madeira every other year and stay at the Oasis Atlantic. This is a 4star Hotel and in a very quiet spot outside Funchal and near to the airport. Chech out at https://www.tripadvisor.com or the hotel website. I have booked flights with Thomson in November for £79 each and the Hotel with Freedomdirect at about £33.50 per room with a full buffet breakfast which is very good. Total cost for 11nights was £263pp. Can also let you have discount details on car hire if you want it.

My O/H wants to go to Madeira for a week's break. I'm going to follow this thread closely - it's his birthday soon.

Earlier replies have given some good information. However, if you do a search for 'Madeira' and another for 'Funchal' you will find many earlier threads that should be useful. I'd suggest using the advanced search in the Travel forum with the 'Search Titles only' option or you'll be overwhelmed with results.

I would recommend staying in Funchal on a first visit as life in Madeira is centred on the capital. We found it different to what we had expected from reading the brochures before we first went. In almost every respect it was better than we had expected and really fell under the spell of the place and people.

    Have a great holiday.
    Nice to save.

It is lovely. My husband's parents are from Madeira and they took us visiting family etc.

But if it's a beach holiday you're after, it's probably not the right place. There is only one sandy beach on the entire island that I know of. Of course, plenty of the hotels have swimming pools with sea views. The one I stayed at wasn't exactly what I'd call 'couply' but because of the lack of beach, it's not a family destination at all, so everywhere is fairly grown up.

There's a big hotel district just outside Funchal; I'd try and stay a bit closer into town so you can walk it.

I will check this out Duckcity, many thanks, I did press the thank button but it has disappeared lol.

You paid £79 for your flight, did they add on any hidden extras, like they do when you book through a travel agent like thompsons.

Last year we went away, and they want to add on for inflight meals, so much extra if you want to sit next each other, and something else I cant remember.

The price of £79 was the total price paid without meals. If you look at https://www.Skyscanner.net you will find a selection of flights to Madeira

I forgot to come back to this thread and just re-found it! Too late for the original poster I guess but for anyone else considering Madeira, I highly recommend it and that villa that I posted about above turned out to be amazing, a wonderful place to stay.
