Green Cone

Has anyone got a Green Cone?
I know that in some councils in Scotland they are sold at a reduced price or were given free, something that hasn't hit most of England yet!

We are getting one and all food waste not suitable for composters can go in, meat, cooked veg, bones etc and they are vermin free. the stuff just decomposes into the soil as the basket is sunk into the ground.

Any thoughts?

Sorry, but I think you have mis-typed that; you have added an "e" !

no haven't got one although it looks like a mixture between 'normal' composting and this [ http://www.wigglywigglers.co.uk/shop/foundoption.lasso?-session=shopper:511148EA0c73f1D4F4PKFEE6785F ]

the washing basket base is to protect the gunk from rats and mice and the solar panel i assume is to give the unit extra warmth in winter? a bit contridictory. they don't mention what type of bacterial they are hoping to cultivate to break down the mixture.

cheaper to buy bocashi (EM) bran (deters pests in itself and deodourises your waste) as just sprinkle on your wet waste for composting.

as my other half pointed out though bones and other hard matter, will only disintergrate when ground into a soft powder and so putting them in a compost directly, won't actually get rid of them.

we use three composters in the garden, so there's always one coming to soil. we have a normal bucket in the kitchen with a lid on it. whenever we peel, chop veg or fruit we wrap in newspaper and pop it in. when full empty into compost heap. it's worth mentioning that you need green (fruit/veg/grass etc) and brown (cardboard, newspapers, dead leaves) matter to make a good balanced compost heap. also, we found that three composters was better for us (five people household) so we can carry one filling on up, while the others are 'working'.

we put out three bin bags every two weeks (nearly a normal black bin full).

NO, and I certainly wouldn't buy one !

This is another "lets jump on the green bandwagon and make a mint" product.

You get the "green cone", AND a "caddy", AND a "shaker", AND of course the magic "accelerator" (which presumably you have to keep on buying !)

I quote from their site: "Reduces methane which is a greenhouse gas" - then it says: "Green Cone reduces food to........carbon dioxide". What is carbon dioxide ?????????????

This has all the credibility of the eco-kettle and B & Q's wind turbines - don't waste your money !!!

I had been thinking about this, but am now thinking more about a wormery... again produces mostly liquid I think which is good if you don't want compost or have no real need for it...

Spot on - £7.25 for 3 pack of refills.

I believe they are trialling a belly button fluff recycling machine;) and a twin pack of another machine that recycles toenail clippings(only un-varnished ones)

Rats will love it - all their food carefully gathered together in one spot and cooked as well ! Rats can chew through concrete and metal, a bit of plastic will just make life more interesting for them and give them an opportunity to work up an appetite!
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
