Ford Fiesta USB Port Issues

Hello all,

I'm really hoping someone will be able to help me.

I bought an HP 8gb USB stick, so i can listen to music in my 2009 Fiesta.
The problem is, my audio system will play 5 to 45 seconds of one song, then the song will skip and the screen will say invalid file format! I then have to switch the engine off for it to play another 5 to 45 seconds of 1 song.

I've looked about on the internet to see if anyone else has this issue, but haven't really found anything.
The songs came from Amazon and they are all .mp3 files. The USB stick itself is formatted as FAT32 and all of the songs is in one folder.

I can play the songs through Amazon Cloud Player via Bluetooth, but that's a pain, as i have to turn the volume up to 20 or so to be able to hear the music! Then if i forget to turn it down before switching the engine off, when i switch it back on again, the radio will be so loud that it makes me jump!

I've just reformatted the USB and updated my audio system and still not working!

Does anyone have any ideas?
I'm really frustrated!

Thank you!

My only though is that the Amazon bitrate is fairly high at 256K, I'm not familiar with the Ford system but unless anyone has better suggestions I'd try a lower bitrate and see if that makes any difference. The easiest way to do so would be to encode a CD through media player or similar where you can choose the bitrate yourself.

As suggested on the Motoring board, it may be the drive that's at fault. Have you played the songs on your computer from the USB drive, and if so were they OK there?
  • Three suggestions

    1) Do the same songs play OK when burnt onto a CDR and played in the car, if so the files are likely to be OK.

    2) Have you tried a firmware upgrade (!) for the car radio ?

    see http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com/downloadsUpdates

    3) Often devices have a volume control for Bluetooth independent of everything else. Set the device to play via Bluetooth then try turning the volume up on the device. This may fix the deafening radio issue.

I've also seen in-car devices which cope with CBR but not VBR, although it was a very long time ago and I'd be pretty astounded if it was still happening today.

OP, make up a memory stick contining 64, 96, 128, 160, 192 Kbps and see which of them work.

Didn't some players have a problem if the tracks were contained in a folder?
    Move along, nothing to see.
