Few days ago i was having problems with updating the AVG antivirus software. That problem is now solved. While looking at the AVG website i came across AVG Anti-rootkit
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/39798/lng/us/tpl/v5
what is it exactly? read the description but can't really figure it out.
On my pc i have zonealarm, AVG anti-virus, Spybot, Spyblaster, Adaware, Spywareguard and also use ccleaner daily.
I assumed i am well protected. Do i need to use AVG anti-rootkit as well? Will it conflict with what i already have?
Am i right in saying i don't need AVG anti-spyware because i am already covered?
thanks in advance

A rootkit is a piece of software that hides itself from the operating system, so it can also hide itself from any AV scanner and spyware scanners. For that reason, they are difficult to identify, and difficult to get rid of.
Anti rootkit scanners generally use windows to read all the files and registry, and then use their own code to do the same, and if the two things give different answers, something is hiding itself from the windows api.
It would do no harm to download and run the rootkit scanner, especially if you have been infected recently. It isn't a resident scanner, only runs when you choose to run it.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
