Constructing a balanced portfolio of investments

Hi

Can anyone suggest a good place to find out about constructing a balanced portfolio of investments?

I have an IFA (more of which elsewhere) but want to be better informed.

Thanks in advance

This page is a good start:

    http://monevator.com/9-lazy-portfolios-for-uk-passive-investors-2010/

It clearly favours one particular style of investing (passive), which may not be what you're after. But there's 9 portfolio allocations there, a brief description about what each is trying to do, and then links for further readings in each.

In addition to Tim Hale, I recommend you get hold of 'the long and the short of it' by John Kay.

Monevator is v good, also DIY Investor http://diyinvestoruk.blogspot.co.uk/ and also RIT http://www.retirementinvestingtoday.com/
We have a climate emergency and need to re-think investing strategies to avoid sectors that are part of the problem such as oil & gas and embrace climate-friendly options such as renewable energy.
  • I'd second BLB53 - Tim Hale, Monevator and RIT are among my regular sources for thoughtful and thought provoking 'advice'.

I second the endorsement of the Tim Hale book. I just wish I could remember who I lent it to...

just look at how the vanguard lifestrategy funds are constructed - other that the 80% equity fund you only need five funds

you could construct your own or just invest in one of the lifestrategy funds - boring but easy - and you won't do much better

to sum up build your own with four or five funds/etfs or buy the lifestrategy fund of your choice and just leave it.

    cheers
