Am I entitled to claim anything ?

I live with my partner. I'm self-employed and haven't worked in three months. Am I entitled to claim anything ? My partner is employed and owns the house we live in. I don't want to do anything wrong re benefits. But although she's ok with paying the bills etc, because I've used up my savings, I don't think she'll be too happy with 'keeping me'. I mean I can't keep asking her for money. But I'm worried the benefits people will view us as 'a household' and if her total income is too high, I don't get anything. Am I entitled to claim in my capacity as an individual without her being dragged into the equation ? Anything is better than nothing. Thank You.

If her wages coming in are over i think £12k then no, likewise if the house is also in your name.

Best way would be for you to go to job centre, and see if you can claim JSA. You wont be entitled to anything else apart from JSA if you qualify for it. Sorry

Her wages are over 12K. The house isn't in my name and never has been. Basically I'm broke ( divorced ) and moved in with my partner two years ago. She's comfortable financially. While she's happy keeping the roof over our head's and paying the bills, she won't be happy 'keeping me'. I don't blame her. I've paid tax and nic's all my life. If I could get JSA it would be great. I'm not looking for a fortune - just enough that I don't have to 'blag' off my partner while I wait for the next contract to appear. Thank You.

If you live with your partner then you would probably be classed as a household and treated as such. You MAY get some tax credits as they are also paid to couples. Give them a call to find out or see by filling this in first

You would not be entitled to contribution based JSA if you have been self employed for the last few years, you need to have paid Class 1 NI. Also you are unlikely to receive income based JSA as your partner is working, but could sign on for your NI credit.
