Hello,
I would absolutely love some advice as I have no clue what to do! After a relationship broke down I am now a recently single parent. I have one child and I work 22 hours a week (but more recently doing a 60 hour week because lack of staff) anyway, problem is the apartment were currently living in is my ex's (Father of DD) name and his mortgage. Although he said he won't kick us out I just don't trust him anymore,
I have tried looking for private renting but most don't accept HB (which i will have to claim for) and pets (I have a dog who would break my heart if I had to let him go
but if It means a roof over my DD head I would)
I have been told by numerous people that I would be waiting for years (i havent got years to wait) for a council house and be best if I flee to a hostel to go up quicker. I'm new ish to civvie life and a Army Veteran so this is totally new to me as I never had to start a claim for "single parent tax credits" nor HB etc. only had Child Benefit.. I'm sorry if I sound so daft, but currently out of my depth.
P.s I wasn't born in this town. I was born in another city, although my DD was born in the town I'm currently we are living in and I have a non stop employment since coming here 3 years ago, and I don't have any family or friends to put us up its just me, my daughter & my dog :rotfl:
Thank you
X

Well unless you get onto the council housing list, it won't be years, it will be never. Get your ex to write formal notice to vacate his property and take it to the council, they won't house you if you have somewhere to live as you do at present. You should be entitled to a 2 bed property which will have a garden for your dog.
You will be given a list of properties to bid for, just don't bid for a flat. Look on your local authority website to see what has been bid for and what is available.
Have a look here as well for benefit advice and I hope the ex will be paying child support.
Good luck with it all.

Also, as a vet, speak to the British Legion - they are used to all sorts of situations and will know the correct place to start. It aint over til I've done singing....0

I was going to say exactly what super said above, lots of private landlords will take people on HB because they know the money is guarenteed & they won't have to chase you for the rent, you just need to inform them that your HB will be paid straight to themI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Thank you for serving our country and Good luck as a single parent.
I really hope you get to keep your doggle and find somewhere nice to settle.
I have managed to rent privately with a dog.0
