p.s our gas and electricity did go up by £40 a month which isn't included in the above AND he was born in December so wont be quite the same for you.

Also we use Tesco nappies he is in size 3/4 already so don't be tempted to stock up. Do stock up on wipes though as we just dont have the time/energy to use washable and didnt realise how many we would go through. But again people do get these for us too when on offer and i must have about 30 packs stocked away.

Another thing, we got moses basket from ebay and resold for profit (new mattress though) we also got a cotbed from ebay but brought a new mattress. Car seat we brought but pushchair my dad brought.

We still have people - neighbours, neighbours of our parents, work colleagues, friends, parents buying and making things even now! Blankets, toys, nappies, baby bath, nappy cream, clothes - you name it when you have your first baby people buy it.

Don't worry honestly.

As your thread has now dropped down the Old Style board, I've moved it over to the family board to see if you can get more input.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

Don't buy it, the midwives usually carry free sample sachets, which are enough for several applications, then after that you can get it on prescription if you need it.

I did get a couple of the samples from my midwives, but was told in this area they can't give it on prescription and can only give a "cheaper" cream-tried it and it was no use. Same with Gaviscon as I had bad acid reflux when pregnant and just after, the stuff provided on prescription was rubbish.
Definately worth asking if you can get it on prescription though as I imagine different areas do different things.

BTW you only leak milk for the early weeks, then your breasts adjust and kind of produce just enough for them to eat.

I wish!! With No1 son I leaked for about 9 months. No1 daughter is 8 weeks and I can still leak through a breast pad and soak my t-shirt and jumper.

Try reusable breast pads or Lilypadz. They are more expensive but are reusable, so moneysaving in the long run....if you get on with them. I didn't, and found only one or two brands of pads that worked for me :(

Babies tend to cost as much as you let them. You can raise a baby on very little, but they can also cost a fortune if you want to buy all new branded things. Don't buy things until you need them - that will save you money on nonsense that companies try to fool you in to thinking you need (eg special tweezers so that you can put the teet on the bottle without touching it and risking making it 'unsterile').
If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:

Pop along and find out more about your local sure start children's centre - every area has access to their services (which provide services, activities etc from the antenatal period through to the child's 5th birthday) - and they're free. This includes things around finance/managing money, counselling, through to breastfeeding support/groups/1:1 help, play sessions, baby groups, family support services, counselling, baby massage etc etc. Google to find your nearest one
