Ipod installation problems

At long last I have got the new version of itunes on my computer and have bought a new 30gb Ipod.
My Ipod did not come with an installation disc and I thought that this would be ok as the drivers might be on the ipod.
When I connect the ipod to the computer, it is recognising the additional device but saying that there are no drivers present.
I have borrowed an installation disc off a friend and it is still not recognising any drivers as being installed. Should my Ipod have come with a disc?
Please help.

Is your PC old? Mine is about 5 years old now and i have problems with my ipod. It recognised the device in my computer but not in itunes. This was a real problem as i wanted to update my ipod so badly. I eventually found a way of getting it to work. Try this it may work for you:

    Close itunes

    Plug in your ipod

when it is recognised open up itunes (this may take away and everything will slow down on your computer)

After between 2-10mins itunes should recognise your ipod and the update section should appear where you can name your ipod etc

Click ok on the pop up window and let it update (if your PC is old like mine this will take a long time for alot of songs & your computer will be running very slowly so it is probably best to leave to update and go and watch tv or something)

Hope this helps it worked for me:D

    Hi,

I think apple stopped supplying discs with ipods. Seems like a good idea to me - when i buy some new hardware i throw away the disc that comes with it and download the newest drivers from the internet. I think that's maybe apple's idea...

Anyway, I think I read somewhere about there being problems with itunes and windows vista, which i think has been sorted in the latest version - how new is your version of itunes? I think this is just in the last couple of weeks, so may be worth checking, and probably something on the apple itunes download site about it...

    ilounge.com

is a good place for any ipod problems - there's a windows itunes forum section there, i'm sure with lots of problems like yours.
