Advice needed - please help **Faulty camera charger blew + burnt my carpet***

Hi
I wondered if anyone could outline my rights following this recent event.
I purchased a camera from amazon - it came with an adapter to use with the camera to charge the battery. The camera was plugged into the adapter and the adapter was plugged into a mains socket. The instructions where followed to do this. An hour later I found the plug has exploded and burnt the mains socket and my carpet. The plug is completely burnt out.
The camera was bought less than 2 weeks ago.
Any suggestions on what I can or should do?
The camera is undamaged. The adapter and my plug socket and carpet are damaged.

If the item was faulty and caused damage to something else, or an injury, then you are entitled to be compensated by the importer (into the EU) or the manufacturer, not the retailer, under consumer protection legislation.

This is quite aside from any contractual issues which you may wish to take up with the retailer.
There is no requirement to prove negligence, only that there was a fault. There are of course defences, but in a nutshell, that's it. Oh, the damage (other than for personal injury) needs to be over a certain amount - £275.0 -
I am sure the defences are substantial, like proving it wasn't a power surge or the actual mains that blew the plug in the first place. Proof will be required if you are going down the comp and consequential loss route.0

What's the value of the damage... As the above link says
" private property (provided the amount of loss or damage is
£275 or more)."
The article says you will need to prove based on the balance of probabilities that it was the product that caused the damage and not other factors.0 -

How can they take photos when they can't charge their camera?
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
