Have any forum members recieved any rebate from Electric Key meters, very confused??

Good evening everyone, really hope you can help me out on this question regarding my electric key pre payment meter.

Ive had it a couple of years now, anyway there have been a few estimated meter readings but last week they came around, took my meter readings and off they went.

This morning I recieved my statement from them and it said I was £49.88 in credit so I rang them up and asked if I could have the £49.88 as a rebate. At first she said "no",then she asked me how much credit I have on my meter right then so I looked at the meter and it was £61.00 in credit(I put £80 on the key on the 1st March)

Anyway she went into this speel about how im not entitled to the £49.88 rebate, she said that information was "just for my information":(what ever that meant.

I said to her "so if I had £300 in credit I still wouldnt get that?"and she replied "no".

I then asked her if I would get the rebate if I left there company(Scottish Power)and again she said "nope, your not entitled to it".So why the heck does it say I am £49-88 in credit???

So has anyone ever recieved a rebate from Scottish Power Key pre payment meter??Just cant get around the fact Im in credit....I have £61.00 in the meter right now to last me till the end of the month, yet I cant claim anything back?????

Ive been meaning to switch to someone else due to the fact my meter is like giving donkeys strawberrys at the moment, its costing me over £80 a month and myself and my partner are out all day,its a 2 bedroomed flat by the way.

Is the lady right does anyone know, any help will be greatly appreciated.

If your account indicates you are £49.88 in credit, why would you be entitled to any rebate if the meter indicates there is still £60 worth of electricity you can draw without topping up the meter again.

It sounds like, if anything, you owe the supplier £10.12 but I doubt they'll come adter you for it. I'm sure it'll all even itself out in the wash :)
  • Hi,

no, you are not entitled to a rebate, the £49.88 credit is in you machine, still to be used.

Next time you top up (£80) just put in £30 and keep £50 to yourself, and if you top up regularly on 1st of the month, the £50 will probably be in your pocket quicker than SP sending out a cheque.
