Tesco Home Standard Insurance - is it me or is it expensive ?

I recently had my car insurance renewal from Tescos - and found that I could save over £150 by moving it to Admiral... so I did a search on my home insurance which isn't renewable until May and found I could get home & contents insurance for well under £200 - i'm currently paying over £450....
However Tescos insurance on a comparison site was also under £200 - so i don't understand why I am paying over double... or has Home insurance dropped in the last 12 months...
Any ideas ??
Cheers

In a nutshell, if your policy has gone through renewal and you've been with them a good few years, it will 99% of the time be more expensive. Why? Because lower prices attract new business

.....I'm with Tesco as two years ago my then home insurer AVIVA jacked the price up 38%!! Tesco actually came in cheaper FIRST year but they tried to jack it up by 45% in year 2!! so I rang them, told them I had got new quotes from other companies for no increase whereupon Tesco backed down and gave me renewal for last year's price!!
The whole thing is a terrible rip off - just reading about SAGA who appear to be screwing senior citizens out of horrendous amounts of dosh for home insurance renewals.
I've made no claims in 20 years and get buildings and contents for less than £200 on a 5 bedroom detached property!!!:money:0 -
Cheers guys for that.... Let's say i'll be moving my car insurance to Admiral's multi car policy this month and to someone else whose cheaper on my home insurance in June..... Will be making a huge saving... i'm currently paying in the region of £50 a month on two cars and £42 a month of home & contents.... i'll be saving over half of what I pay now.... RESULT!!!0

You either establish the firms who have a policy of not being the cheapest at the outset, but who tend not to increase too much at renewal, or, you use confuse the meercat every year and change to a new provider each time.
I have my car insurance with Royal & Sun Alliance, via CSIS and my home insurance with Paymentshield. This is because both of them deal with me properly, have good claims handling and don't increase the premiums too much at renewal.I am a mortgage broker. For the last 3 years I've refused the renewal with Aviva, then, gone through Topcashback and taken out a new policy with Aviva.
I've done this with both cars and home insurance.
Over £200 cash back on the 3 policies each year, so 1 car is effectively free insurance.

I've never renewed either a car or home insurance policy in my life and don't expect to as I can't ever see it being financially viable.0
