Paypal micro payments

I sell on eBay so have a normal Paypal account, I see today it's actually a premier account (whatever that means)

Now, I want to set up a website, for a very small scale project, which if all goes to plan, I will get some £1 payments.

I have been looking on t'internet about 'buy now' payment buttons for Paypal ... And came across their micropayment option.

It looks ideal for low value payments.

Can I have two Paypal accounts and if so, is it simply a case of using a second email and starting a new account, then opting for the micropayment pricing.

I assume I would just leave my original Pp account, for my ebay sales, then use the new one for my new project.

Would I be better off contacting Paypal, or would this just make things worse.

Thank you for any advice given.

It may have changed since I set up my micropayments; but I had to set up a new paypal account with a new email address (mine has the word micro in it to remind me when listing low-value items!)

and once it was set up I had to email to request it be converted to a micro account.

I see it works out that payment for about £10 or below will incur les Paypal fees with their micropayment option.

Is it feasible to chop and change Paypal accounts to suit the final value, or is simply too much faff. OK I usually hope an item will see for more than £10, but I have, on rare occasions set a buy it now option for <£10

I use both a premier and a micro and switch between them on my auctions. You need to choose which one to use when you list though so occasionally I get caught out and something I thought will go for £5 goes for £20 and it still has to go to the micro account.

So do I phone Paypal, or do I just register a new account with them online, with a different email address.
  • Iv been in contact with paypal to sort a micro payments account out, this is the info they gave me.....

PayPal offer a separate fee structure for Verified Business/Premier merchants who only accept small UK to UK payments.

The fees are 5% + 5p per transaction compared to 3.4% + 20p which is the standard rate.

It is most financially beneficial to you if you accept payments under £9 for accounts with the Micropayment fee structure. For this reason it may be advisable to have a separate account for the small or ‘Micropayments’.
Here’s how you can sign up for micropayment pricing:
    1. Go to our micropayments website at https://micropayments.paypal-labs.com
    2. Click ‘Signup.’
    3. Select the appropriate country.
    4. Click ‘Login here.’
    5. Enter your PayPal account password and click ‘Log in.’
Allow 2 business days for the micropayment pricing to take effect.
Please be aware that micropayments can only be used when processing transactions of 9GBP or under.

The last two lines are not correct , a micro account can take Any payment, but it is not beneficial once payment exceeds £9.

As above, you have to choose what account to add to your auction when you list and you cannot guarantee to always manage to guess whether your item (and postage) will be less than or more than £9. I've got it horribly wrong on occasions :(

If you manage to get in before the buyer pays, you can change the account for payment to go to on the invoice.

I can't on mine as I've tried. I can only change it if they buy more than one thing as then the box with my paypal ID in it is open rather than greyed out.

If sellers were able to change the paypal ID in a single purchase on an invoice we wouldn't have the issue of payments going to the wrong paypal ID and being unclaimed. It is only because that paypal ID cannot be changed manually that causes the issue of sellers having to ask buyers to pay a directly sent paypal invoice rather than through ebay.

  • Very difficult to use two paypal accounts as most full time sellers use paypal to consolidate various selling channels rather than the opposite way round. Still very useful info though as Paypal have never written to me telling me about this option.

  • Why cant you just use your normal PayPal account instead of making a new one, just make a Buy Now button and use that.
