upon further reflection - it's probably not wise to provide false information. I have done it myself because I needed to get credit and saying you're a salaried employee means you get instant approval and that does make a difference.

I did look up "application fraud" on cifas. technically providing false information is fraud but is that what the process was designed to monitor and protect against? - I cannot say.

it's a risk I took - I know I'm good for the money and keep within the limits YMMV.

I think applications fraud is meant to cover trying to get credit in someone elses name or doing a credit card scam rather than mis-stating your income..

I have limited knowledge in this area mind, don't take any of my advice here literally - I'm just stating what I did. I've always been self employed, owned my own business etc and never had issues with getting credit card - including stating my employer as the one I was employed by 5 years prior.

It may cause problems if they check - but I've always made more than minimum payments and never did anything for the credit card company to panic and do further ivestigation.

It's not mis-stating, its deliberately misleading. OP do not put any false information on an application.
    Total Mortgage OP £61,000
    Outstanding Mortgage £27,971
    Emergency Fund £62,100
I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>

Capital One are usually happy to provide you with a credit card provided that you don't have 'bad' history. True it's at a 30%+ rate, but it's still a credit card and it'll help you build up!
Be Warned: Any decision made by ATOS should be treated with the contempt and suspicion in rightly deserves. If in any doubt, make sure to appeal any and all decisions by ATOS. Do not take their word for it, do not give them an inch of trust.

When judging if ATOS were fit for work, it looks like they self-assessed. //Rant-Disclaimer End.

Who cares about the rate if your goal is just to rebuild a credit score.

I'm an unemployed student (income is only slightly better than job seekers allowance) and was approved for the Aqua Rewards card, the APR I was given was 39.99% with a limit of £250. For credit building purposes, I don't see the APR being an issue.

You could apply for that one;)

  • thanks everyone but I mentioned also that I could credit a certain sum of money to a card up to (say) the given credit limit, therefore enabling the supplier to treat my card as a pre-paid card, if necessary.

    would that help?

The Capital One secured card sounds like what you're looking for - acceptance is pretty much guaranteed as long as you provide an upfront deposit

I have some rental income and a cash lump sum to live off but need a credit card to start rebuilding my credit score having not had any borrowings for over 10 years.

Is there a card that does not require proof of income? I am happy to credit a sum of money up to the initial balance if this should help me to acquire such a card.

    Any advice?
