No, unless it was part of the package, which looks like it wasn't. If your flight originated in the EU to London and it was 3 hours plus late then you would be entitled to compensation, almost 3 hours though looks like you miss out.

Check your travel insurance, they may pay out.

If your tickets was amendable why was you charged? Make this your starting point.

I'm guessing the train had actually left by the time to OP got to the station, so it may be that amendment is not possible in that case.

I think agrinnall is right. My understanding was that train tickets are usually amendable before the time of travel. I have seen some tickets however, where you can send off the original unstamped tickets (I think with explanation) with refund on those. Did they make you pay the full amount for the new tickets? Or was the price you paid already reduced by the amount of the original tickets?

This is where your travel insurance should pay out, so I would claim on that! (I'm presuming the flight and train were not booked through the same company...?)

Ultimately, you would have been better booking a train ticket that can be used at any time on a specific day.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

OP, I find it difficult to believe that anybody would even begin to ask whether they could get a refund from the train company in these circumstances. Anything could have delayed you, customs, baggage delays, flight delays, technical delays on the plane. Tickets for a specific train, even if amendable, are a false economy as you've found.
