Which teeth are missing? If it's mainly the front teeth then most dogs will be able to chew using the molars, but if she's missing molars, a chew style toy will be useless.

How about ither foid based activities, like dog pyramid or tug a jug?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

My dogs have always had rawhide, the older one waited until the younger one soaked it before eating it.
You have to know your dogs though, both my dogs would never swallow something whole, they always chewed it thoroughly so I knew it was safe but some dogs have a habit of gulping food down. Those are the ones that should avoid rawhide.

He also enjoyed a good old munch on raw or cooked peppers and human food.

My lad never tried to swallow them whole either, it doesn't take a lot of rawhide to cause a dog problems
  • Thanks for the replies and suggestions. It is most of her molars apart from the very back ones that are missing. She is quite a big greedy dog, who was a stray, and so I am scared of her swallowing back things whole.

I had some wide flat dried tripe strips (for dogs) and she enjoyed licking that and scraping it around her mouth, I watched her for about 10 minutes. I left the room, to return and it was nowhere to be seen though!

She found a thick piece of toast on the field yesterday (random, I know), and ran off with it, and when we caught up she was sitting munching away lol

I think that some food games and training games would be good for her , thanks for the suggestion, I've been thinking of the lazy ways to amuse her too hence the chews, but I know from reading books there are lots of ideas if I put my mind to it.

Carrots are an idea, but would have to be a thick one.

Horse carrots would be ideal then, as they tend to be the larger and more misshapen ones that wouldn't sell well at the grocers or supermarket.
