If I restore down a Windows 7 window it goes to a horizontal letterbox by default. If I reshape it to something more sensible the next time I restore down it returns to the letterbox again. How do I set the default shape, and how do I stop it returning to the default just because I've maximised it for a few seconds?

There's quite a few reports of that problem. It shouldn't happen and there doesn't seem to be a fix for it. Just google the problem. Some comments on it here:

Thanks. It seems there's quite a random element at work. The letterbox is only fairly recent, the default window you start with seems to keep changing for no rhyme or reason.0
