Home Insurance renewal problem.

Hi, wondering if any of you folks can advise me on this.

Couple of years back I made a claim on a laptop that our child knocked over and needed it's screen replaced. The thing is I'm still with that insurer and our policy shows that we have 6yrs no claims discount included on the renewal. Why would it show 6yrs no claims discount if I claimed a couple of years ago? I know the claim was small and in hindsight not really worth it but a claim is a claim, right?

When I try to enter my details into insurance comparison sites the problem occurs as I enter the claim details but then I can't choose the 6yrs no claims discount as it throws up an error.

I take it I need to disregard the 6yrs no claims discount when dealing with a new insurer?

Edit: Just seen there is a home insurance discussion thread at top of page. maybe if this needs moved to it or if someone can answer in this thread, I'm not sure.

Ignore this 6 years no claims. That is just a record on your existing policy, that they are allowing you a discount, presumably on the basis of a good previous record.

When you approach new Insurers for a quote, you will have to enter the claim details and only 1 or 2 years claim free years since you had the claim for the laptop.

No claims on Home Insurance is totally different to Car Insurance. Many Home Insurers don't have a no claims discount. They just look at what is declared in regard to claims and also look at the questions about years you had Home ins or lived in/owned your current house.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
