Washing machine help!

I bought a washing machine 17 months ago and its no longer working (It spins, then stops constantly during the cycle).

It wasn't a cheap washing machine as I was pregnant at the time so knew i'd be relying on it once the baby was here! Hotpoint only provide a 1 year guarantee and want me to pay over £100 for them even to come out and see if they can fix it!

Is there any other routes i can go down as i don't see that I should have to pay out for repairs after so little time!

    Because it's been over six months you would need to get an independent engineer out to look at the machine and confirm it's an inherent fault present at the time of manufacture . This would mean getting him to say that it has failed prematurely through no fault of you own (over use, normal wear and tear etc) but because of poor quality components used.

    This is not an easy thing for them to say because it's hard to determine, other machines of the same model and a history of having the same fault can help there.


    If you get this report and they accept it, they will pay for the report and fix the machine free, they can of course have their own inspection done to discredit the report and you are back to square one.

    Did you buy it direct from Hotpoint?

    If not, perhaps you should consider talking to whoever sold the thing to you.

    Unfortunately I bought it from Comet :-/

    I just bit the bullet and decided to pay for their service plan instead! I get my money back if they cant repair it and if it has 2 faults then I get a new unit!

    I cant live without my washing machine!!
