Now Dreams Bed Retailers are in trouble and go into administration - Dreams, Britain's biggest, has collapsed into administration with the loss of 400 jobs. to join (6000 other retail jobs this year.)
Over 90 of its stores will be closed, and 400 laid off, with future of others uncertain its collapse brings the total number of job losses in the retail sector to about 6,000 since the start of the year at failed firms including HMV, Jessops, Republic, Blockbuster - also those job losses at Axminster carpets and of the course the non retail 4000 defence jobs. These will start to show up in next quarter unemployment figures as the jobless tide turns upwards.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it, if I were you0

LoL - nice one!
However, I dont expect the workers will sleep very well in future... lying awake thinking about mortgage /rent arrears - many low waged families were doing that already.. while in work... now this will finish them off.0 -
A zombie company relying on zombie households for business.
No credit no sale.0 -
The employees at Dreams are victims of Labour's credit boom.
They are yet another retailer who was only just keeping its head above water even in those credit-fuelled 'good times'.
As far as I can see, no retailer with a sustainable business model has yet gone bust.
As for Axminster Carpets, they are a victim of changing fashion. They don't make wooden flooring.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

And ignoring the pointless immigration slant in this article there is some interesting info about the rate of job creation in 2012

This all shows how pointless it is to try to pick on one example of a company closing down as evidence that unemployment is increasing. You need to look at the overall picture as companies close down all the time whether the economy is in recession or not.0 -
With the spring quarter day for rents approaching, I would expect a number of other household names to go under in the course of the next month.
Those who had a poor Christmas were relying on deep discounting in sales to improve their cashflow. For some, this won't have proved enough to meet their upcoming obligations."When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0 -
Employment stands at almost 30,000,000, the highest it has ever been in British history. 400 job losses, whilst being 400 sad stories, is a drop in the ocean. 400 is less than a day's job creation IIRC.

I suspect your post will show how pointless it is to debate with this flip wit as if you make a decent point (as you did IMHO) then you'll get no response.0 -

Expensive and slow delivery relative to competitors.
Surprised they lasted so long."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
