Hi ALL
Really hoping somebody can help me - made redundant in January this year after a consultation period. I was asked to work my notice on which was to the end of March but due to the awful atmosphere at work my boss and I had a discussion and they allowed me to leave early in lieu of my notice. I am now trying to claim from my redundancy insurance. The company I worked for had a Management buy out 3 years ago and that is when I decided to take out the insurance and I have been paying my premium ever since.
I have put a claim form in and they have sent a letter back asking for further info  with questions such as the following
* why did I request to leave early can I clarify?
* am I claimimg job seekers allowance - which I dont want to do if I can help it
* 3 months of wage slips including final wage slip
So my question here is are the insurance company being awkward or from what I have put down here it is just process and like I have stated before I do not want to claim job seekers do I have to claim job seekers in order to recieve the redundancy insurance payout for my mortgage
Hope somebody can help and respond as it is not a good time at all

It is normal for the insurer to investigate the circumstances surrounding your unemployment.
Many insurers predicate a claim on your registration for jobseeker's allowance.
I suggest you read the terms of your cover to establish the insurer's requirements.I am a mortgage broker. When did/does your lieu on notice expire?
Not every company requires you to work your notice so I cannot see a problem other than you cannot put in the claim until your lieu of notice expires. ( you still have an income for X number of weeks.)
Likewise, proof that you are on jobseekers also proves to them that your notice has in fact expired.
If you have put in a claim before your notice expires they may be suspicious.0 -
I would expect them to say that you've walked away from cash that you could have earned upto the end of March. So the end of March is when you are truly redundant.
There will then be an exclusion period stated in the policy, typically 30-90 days that they won't pay for.
Then your insurance will kick in.0 -

The OP needs to clarify whether they received pay in lieu of notice in any case a claim could not be made until this notice period had expired, whether paid for or not.
I think we both said basically the same thing but worded it differently.0 -
Thanks for all that have responded very much appreciated. So official leaving date was the Start of April. However company has allowed me to leave early due to the sensitivity of my role and did not require me to work my notice but agreed to pay my wages until the official leave date.
Also do you have to be in reciept of job seekers allowance to be able to recieve your insurance payout?0 -
They expect you to do everything you can to get another job to minimise their losses so claiming jobseekers shows that you are in the system.
Some even require you to show what you are doing to find work ( just like the jobcentre ) and they might request you to take a course to help you with CV's/interviews etc.0
