is this an insurance scam ?

So my insurance is up for renewal this month, they rang me with their suggested quote and I said I would look around and that's when the lady on the phone says I should mention the two claims Ive had.
I told her I had only ever claimed once and that was 4 months ago.
No she says, you claimed for a windscreen repair in 2009, never had a repair done at all I told her.
Now I have never had my windscreen repaired so whats going on? is this some sort of scam ?

You need to ask them to investigate the windscreen claim if you are sure it wasn't you. It may have been a paperwork issue, with the wrong policy number, or it may have been deliberate fraud.I am a mortgage broker. It's very easy to have a minor windscreen repair and forget about it.
The Autoglass man fixes it, you sign a bit of paper, they handle any insurance paperwork, it's free, you forget about it. The way they word the adverts makes it sound as if it isn't a claim at all - the insurers pay for it because it will save them a lot of money if the windscreen is saved instead of developing a full crack.
Imagine that an insurance company gave you a free smoke alarm when you took out a policy. It would be a sensible thing to do, perhaps some do it.
Quite reasonably you wouldn't consider it a "claim" ? But it is really, if forestalling a shattered winscreen counts as a claim.
BTW your post reminds me that we did have a windscreen chip fixed about 3 years ago. I'd completely forgotten about until now. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks for the replies guys, I have them investigating it, hopefully by Tuesday I'll find out how the extra claim got there, just know it wasn't there last year.0
