Additional car - quotes are ridiculous as NCD are not accepted - HELP!!

Rightio...

Bought a second car and now looking for insurance. But of course I now read that you can't have your No claims bonus on more than one car (policy) at a time. So instead of looking at the usual 250-300 mark, I am now looking at 600- 1600!!!! Absolute disgrace!! I have not made any claims on my other car policy and have 7yrs NCB. Apart from my 20 yrs of driving I am almost being treated like a new driver - nuts!!!

Are there any companies that would consider to some extent your No claims status from your other concurrent policies?

I've tried to get a multi-car quote from my current insurer but they're just taking the michael too.

How do multi-car families afford insurance on two cars??

Any tips/company recommendations appreciated!

Each driver has their own policy. They build up their own no claims.

Are you going to be the main driver on both cars? Other named drivers?

You can try multicar policies but from what others have put and my own tests its usually cheaper to have 2 separate policies with 2 companies.

Who knows it may work for you.

I afford multicar because I have built up two separate NCD'S.

Also where there are two separate drivers they have both built up their own NCD.

This is normal and your best bet would be ring insurers and see if any will give you a large introductory discount on the second car.

If you are the only driver some will mirror the discount on the second car because only one car will be used at a time !

Some companies give NCD to named drivers. Privilege gave my wife a full NCD when we got a second car. The next year she switched insurers. So now we have 2 cars with full independent NCD applied to each.

I'm a named driver on her policy, so it would work backwards too, if I bought a second car.
You just need to pick a company that does this. We didn't particularly - it's just that Privilege were the cheapest at the time.

Diamond gave our daughter a NCD as a named driver on my wife's policy. Then she got a policy with them in her own name.
