Extremley High Electric Bill in Student House.

Hi, I live in a student house and we have just had our latest electric bill. There are six people in the house. The Bill is from 10th December - 08th March. In total, this bill was: £796.54. This seems to be very high! (We do not have gas at the property, but still?). I do know that a few people in the house use stand…

Look at it this way...
Split evenly between 6 of you, that is only about £130 each for 3 winter months.
Not much you can do about others running electric heating for long periods of time. A 2KW electric heater running for 2 hours will use the same electricity as an energy saving 8W bulb for 500 hours, or even an "old" style 60W bulb for 67 hours. So it is hard to make any noticeable savings by switching off lights if heaters are widely used.

The good news is the bills will drop hugely if it ever gets warmer.
