Quoted for replacing collapsed drainage pipe but work not done yet invoiced

So my toilet blocked, I called my banks home emergency cover who was dyno-rod, he couldn't clear it, dyno-rod finally announced a few days later it was due to a collapsed drainage pipe and quoted £634 to fix it, including £300 alone for its excavation and replacement. I got the home insurance involved and they agreed to cover it. Dyno-rod came, cue the ripping up of my toilet, then they realised the drainage pipes were under the conservatory. They decided to try again to unblock it in order to check it was definitely a collapsed pipe. I said I would need reapproval from insurance to dig the conservatory as the costs would be higher than quote. They announced they'd cleared it with a jet wash laughing that the previous guy couldn't. They replaced the toilet. Toilet didn't set they came back to reset it. Toilet still blocked and they again jet washed it and now seems fine. However received an invoice for the original quote. I disputed this and they sent a clearly bogus photo of a pipe in a hole that was not from my garden. Insurance sent another company go check and they agree the work wasnt done. I am emailing dyno-rod back and forth but they say that as restoring flow was the aim and they have done that, and they had planned to come and do what was quoted then they are right to charge the original quote? Is this madness? They are ignoring my comments re the photo and claim the excavation was done

Just let the insurance company argue the toss since they are paying. Or invoke Dynorod's official complaints procedure.

Definately leave it to your Insurers
  • The invoice is actually in my name though. They sent it to me as they said they couldn't get hold of the insurance company. I also never signed for the work when they left. It all just seems very dodgy for an otherwise reputable company

As you've already been told pass it to your insurer.

As it's your bank's emergency cover why not complain to the bank?
