Mature student: Complete career change

Hiya all,

I’ve taken it as long as I can and am looking to change my career completely.

I would like to start with an HNC/HND in Civil Engineering while I am learning the job (while employed maybe optimistically) by a CE company.

I want to be proactive and send out some letters to prospective employers basically selling myself as a mature student/employee (I’m 34).

I’ve never done this before and would appreciate any advice and/or tips on what to include/not include in this letter . I’m also about to start compiling a list of possible employers and, once again, would gladly accept any suggestions of businesses with a presence in the South Wales area.

Thanks in advance for any replies that come this way,
L

** Not sure if this is best placed here or in the Jobseekers board. If the latter please would a kind mod move it there for me. Thanks **

In the first instance I wouldn't send out letters asking for a job. I'd ask for some advice from the companies about what they're looking for.

You might be better doing some of the academic stuff first.

Just do lots of research. Make sure that it is something you definitely want to do; it wouldn't be good if you had to change careers again.

Maybe this would go down better in the jobseekers' board.
