A MOTORIST has become the first person in Plymouth to successfully appeal against a bus lane fine.
But now John Ayre faces a fresh battle, as the council bids to reverse the decision.

More than 100 drivers have appealed against bus lane fines in Plymouth
A TOTAL of 105 drivers have lodged appeals against bus lane fines in Plymouth, it can be revealed.
The Herald reported yesterday on how two motorists had successfully appealed against their fines – though the council is fighting to overturn one.

The telling bit is when the John Ayres says that ,in effect, had the signs been correct the number of fines would go down but they don't seem to have done so.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

The scamming parasites, there fully aware that road is to generate cash and only cash  I hope they have to refund everyone with 8% interest. :money:PPCs say its carpark management, BPA say its raising standards..... we all know its just about raking in the revenue. :eek:0

If the photo shows the offending sign, then it is perfectly clear that only motorbikes, bicycles, buses & taxis are allowed.
This style of sign is in use in towns and cities around the UK.Never Knowingly Understood.

The sign wasn't the problem, it was the position of the sign. That street is a one way street, so once you turn in and you see the sign it's too late. Also cars used to be able to go down that street.0

No it is NOT clear, Blue signs give advice and helpful instructions, red ringed signs give orders.
If someone has read the highway code correctly, how on earth can they be clear when the wrong type of sign and wrong colour altogether is used.Be happy...;)0 -

That's not accurate. Blue signs give positive instructions where as red boarded circular signs show a prohibition so they both give orders. The sign in this case would be correct if it was at the start of the bus lane. However, if it's in a one-way street (as Fergie mentions), then there should be an advance warning sign before the junction of the street.

I'm not sure. I don't drive that way very often. However from the article -Adjudicator Deborah Gibson ruled that the advanced warning sign on the roundabout "does not give motorists adequate time to respond" to avoid the bus lane.
I don't know how to post street views.0 -

Yeah, where the road splits, it is the left hand lane. The sign is on the right hand side at the start of the bus lane.
Following the road back all the way up to the circle, I can't see any other warning signs.0
