Dad had his yesterday. He has decided to 'volunteer' to be assessed for PIP simply because as he says 'I'm not prepared to wait another two years of not knowing what is going to happen, besides which if I fail the PIP test, at least I will be able to put in a fresh claim as I will not be 65 until June next year. Wait till 2015, then it is a one off chance only'.
I spoke to Social Services on his behalf and they think that it is a good idea.0 -
How many more times do you have to be told about this - you Dad should wait and leave well alone as by applying PIP now before he is 65 will mean he loses his DLA status and may not get PIP at all. If he will be 65 in June 2014, then he will keep the DLA from then on anyway. If his award was until 2015 anyway he has nothing to gain from doing it now. And anyone who tells you different is wrong.0

The rep from Social Services came over and told us that dad had two choices. His current indefinite award (HRM & MRC) will be taken off him in any event in 2015 when he will have to apply for PIP as he won't be 65 until June 2014.
The choices told to us are:
(a) That he waits until 2015 (age 66) and claims PIP then. However if he fails to get an award under PIP and fails at a Tribunal following an appeal, he is too old to put another claim in (you have to be under 65 to claim PIP). He is then left with having to claim Attendance Allowance and his Motability payments will stop. On the plus side he will continue to get his DLA until 2015!
(b) That he 'volunteers' for PIP now (age 63/64). If he fails the assessment and fails at a tribunal, he still is able to put in another PIP claim and try again, until he is 65.
Yes he will lose his DLA when he fails the PIP assessment, but at least he has the option of making repeat PIP claims until he gets to 65.
The gamble he was given was to possibly lose his DLA payments from say the end of 2013, instead of 2015 but have the chance to make repeated PIP claims instead.
Is the loss of DLA for maybe 2 years worth the chance of making other PIP claims?
You seem to be saying that he will keep his DLA as he will be at least 66 when they come round to assessing him in 2015 which is wrong. He will have to apply for PIP. The exemption only applies to those that are 65 as at the 8th April 2013.0 -
Mine was a month ago and had stuff about PIP with it. Seems they go in batches.0

received mine yesterday (for my son).
about 8 pages - lots of info about PIP when he is only 60 -
Seriously Horseunderwater, don't bother. He knows full well what's what and likely a whole lot more than most.0
