But surely this should be possible if the client is made aware and makes an independent reasoned decision. There should be a huge onus put on the IFAs records, quite rightly but if The options are explained and someone chooses against advice then that is up to them.

The FOS commended IFAs on client file information back in November as an example to others. It is just an every increasing standard and requirement. An IFA is there to recommended what is best advice. If a client wants to choose and disregard the IFA advice then they can do so. However, unlike in the past, nowadays you would expect the IFA to classify the client as an "insistent client" who is overruling the advice.
