Online paperwork system contracts

This is a strange one and not sure if anyone will be able to answer it, I am part of an online paperwork system for my job, this holds sensitive details of clients and families, last month we were told he had sold the company to a larger organisation, this obviously caused a bit of a panic regarding our security of the info, then yesterday we got emails saying we were now being charged VAT from this month, some were even charged by their accounts before they received the email, the terms says tax will be taken if owed but surely he had to be already including vat in our payment but other increases will be given 30 days notice.
They are now threatening people with libel stuff if they say anything or if the try to end contracts but some have 12 month contracts and the thoughts are this new company can now just keep increasing fees
Obviously yes the term were given but we agreed them with the original owner where do we stand with the new owner who has already seemed to have started as they mean to go on and just take money!

Ok, you need to explain things a bit clearer.
The company that has been bought.... are you an employee of that company? A contractor/ self employed supplier to them? Are they a supplier of yours?
By the sounds of it you buy some form of service from a company and they've now become VAT registered and so the price you're paying has increased because they've lumped VAT on top?
What did you mean by:he had to be already including vat in our payment0 -
We use a system that provides a online program/ storage we use for our work, we are self employed but pay this company monthly or yearly, the company has been large enough to pay vat for a while now, they had said last week they were introducing a tiered membership to start in May, then 4 days later done this instead.
Sorry I can't be more accurate but they have made comments to people about closing their systems! I am out of contract now and can end at anytime but it will take me a while to print my stuff, it's a shame as it was a fantastic programme until this last few weeks, I was prepared to see how things went but no oe can live with the fear they will just keep increasing costs with every upgrade
