Car insurance - DVLA Medical Restriction

Hi everyone,
If you could help me out with this, it would be much appreciated!
My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's some time ago. We've been busy and had a lot of things occupy our minds lately, and a family friend recently informed us that we should notify DVLA about his medical condition. I found out afterwards that it is a criminal offence not to with a fine of up to £1k. This hadn't even crossed my mind until I was told, as he's quite early stage and doesn't shake, etc.
I reluctantly helped him renew his car insurance a few days ago, after he really insisted that I do this before notifying DVLA (I think he's afraid of losing his licence and not being able to drive anymore). I ticked the DVLA Aware - no restrictions box, after hesitating over the DVLA Unaware box as I knew about the fine.
Now, will he not only have an offence and get a fine - but will the insurance company get mad at us for "lying" to them? I will notify DVLA, but will he get a fine/trouble with the Insurance once I notify them?
If you could help me out with this, it would be much appreciated!

So have you actually informed the DVLA yet or not? That evidently is a major priority.
You need to inform the insurers too, generally speaking due to fear of the Disability Discrimination Act then insurers tend not to be too bad. The obvious big issue here is the fact you admit you have intentionally lied to the insurer and therefore they may have much more issue with it than if it had been an honest mistake. Either way the minimum is probably an administration fee of up to £50 to pay and worst will be voided insurance for fraud and a loading to CIFAS (though I predict very unlikely)0 -
Surely the biggest issue here is if your Dad is safe to drive? My car was recently involved in an accident were the driver took ill at the wheel and wrote off his car, 2 further cars and damaged 2 others (one of which was mine). He is still in hospital and we are all waiting to find out if his insurance is valid or not as it is suspected he was driving without disclosing a medical condition.0

They won't get mad either.
However, the cover is very likely going to be invalid as you have lied on the application.0 -

Fingers crossed he was driving without disclosing a medical reason0 -

tells you what you need to disclose and the likely outcome.
Has his doctor told him to report it to dvlc?0 -

Let's hope, for your sake, that he was.0
