No claims bonus 'stolen'

Last year I took out a car insurance policy with Halifax.
Going into the policy I had 11 years NCB, and although I've had no claims, I'm leaving with proof of only 9 years.
I'm presuming this is due to the online application form only having a maximum option of '9 or more years'.
After contacting their call centre, I'm told this is all they can give.
Is this common, and is there anyway of getting the missing years back?

First question is does it matter? You rarely get any extra discount for having over 9 years NCB
If you've opted for an insurer that oddly does not give full NCB by the time you have 9 years no claims, then you should be able to get confirmation from the previous insurer which together with the 9 years shown on the renewal is normally acceptable.0 -
Yes - and sadly irrelevant. Few companies discriminate over 7 years, and at 9 underwriters will rarely care, having already proved to their satisfaction that the insured is not reckless. You'll find that at 9+ the quotation will not markedly different.0

If you have your previous NCD proof you can show a paper trail to confirm the years.
Though in practice it won't make any difference whether you have 9 or 12 years.
And if it's unprotected you will go down to 3 after a claim irrespective of how many you start with.0 -
Thanks for your replies folks.
I applied for my current insurance stating that I had 12 years, so I'm just waiting for a call back to confirm that it's ok with them.
Luckily I have proof from my last but one policy stating 11 years, so hopefully will be fine.
Thanks again for the assurance.0
