JET 2 charge £12 for checking in!

They brag about their 22kg luggage allowance being larger than other airlines but do not mention other airlines charges.

Nor do they tell you that it is £12 to check in on line or £20 check in at the airport, I think it is a bit of a con, the online check in should be included in the flight price.

What do you think?

Con or not, it's an odd system to be sure. Online check-in *is* free if you don't have a bag to drop off but is suddenly extra if you do. Doesn't make much sense.

I thought the rules were that airlines couldn't add charges you couldn't avoid. That was why Ryanair had to remove their check in and debit card charges.

i recenlty booked a holiday with onthebeach. thought that was it for the price, seems i have add ons yet to come like the above, have to pay to check in online apparenlty (ryanair) and have to pay a tax when get to hotel.. surely this all should be told before booking...

You can avoid it if you dont take bags. Not saying it is right though

If you booked it with OTB, it should be included in your holiday cost. You have to choose the option when you book the flights, not when you actually check in

ok cheers. seen still had to check in online to get the boarding pass so thought had to pay to do that.. cant do it till 14 days before so didnt know..

If you check in without bags you have no interaction with their staff until the gate. If you check in with bags you have to go to one of their desks (in which case, you might as well just check in there anyway!).

I agree it's stupid, and logically it should be lumped in with the bag charge itself, but I'd say it makes sense.

All those moaning about extra this and that haven't seen anything until they book with Tiger Airlines.

About 3 years ago I boycotted them because I just could not be arsed with their fake prices anymore.
Last night for the first time since Id ditched them I found a great price from Macau to Singapore, the total price was 4 times the original and that was without luggage :cool:

But surely that's what the bag fee is meant to cover? The online check-in fee is separate to that and that's why it doesn't make sense. And it's more expensive still if you chose airport check-in with a bag.

The bit I don't like is how they advertise 'A massive 22kg bag costs just £12.99 each way'. It doesn't, because as soon as you add a bag it adds £18.99 each way. So it's not £12.99 each way is it jet2 ?

All this 'online check-in' is a load of BS anyway when you have hold luggage. More often than not, you go to the same desks, deal with the same staff, hand over the same passport and get asked the same questions. So in reality you check-in at the airport.

EDIT: Just found quite a useful trick though, if you need more than 1 case add them all to one passenger. That way you only pay the £12 'online check-in' fee once. If you add 1 case each to 3 passengers you would pay £36.
