Credit Card Identify Theft

My fiance has just found out that 2 Credit Cards have been opened in his name without his knowledge. They were both applied for and approved yesterday with BOS and Barclaycard.

Really quite a worringing situation and we have no idea how they obtained his information. The thing is both cards were going to be sent to our home address anyway so what would be the advantage of someone else applying for a card they would never have access to?

We are also in the middle of applying for a mortgage and don't want anything to ruin our chances of this. Does anyone know if the accounts were opened yesterday but cancelled today if this will show on his credit report?

How did you find out they were opened yesterday?

If they have been opened then you'll have the footprints on the credit file from the application and subsequently the two accounts showing. On the assumption it is fraud then the banks may be willing to delete both upon completion of their investigations.

They may also mark CIFAS to show you have been the victims of fraud which in itself wont prevent any credit applications from going through but may mean more checks are conducted to validate your identity.

Can I suggest that another more effective way to prevent this happening is to try the method on the link below:

No one to date using the system has fallen victim to this sort of crime.

Does this really work? If it does you'll probably never get an instant decision on any applications again.

    never going to happen
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
