Will Opening Many Accounts Hurt Credit Rating?

I have a quick question, will opening say 3 or 4 accounts in a short space of time hurt my credit rating?

I didn't think so but thought I would check.

    too many credit searches in a short time may affect your credit rating for 6 months or so.
