EBAY Motors

Hi all,

I am an Ebay newbie so apologies if my questions are daft but I desperately need help.

I have just sold my car on Ebay, the buyer hasn't got in touch so I sent him an invoice and a message with my contact number. Few hours later I got a message from him requesting my full address, full reference number of the log book (apparently to check the car's MOT status). The buyer hasn't left their name or contact number so I got a bit worried. I sent him a message with my phone number and MOT certificate number (which is enough to check the MOT status on DVLA website) but I asked him to ring for the address and haven't heard anything from him yet. Was I right doing that or am I over worrying for no reason?

Many thanks folks, any help will be much appreciated

Forgot to mention that the buyer's Ebay account is fairly new with little and unimpressive feedback

Does sound a bit strange - I can understand the extra checks that the buyer wants to carry out, but there's no reason why this can't be done amicably over the phone as you have suggested.

I've bought and sold a few vehicles on Ebay over he years and at some point there needs to be phone contact - sooner rather than later.

Was it sold via auction or buy-it-now?

It was an auction. I completely agree with you, every time I bough or sold a car on Ebay I have had some sort of phone contact, in fact it was always immediate.

I am considering sending a second chance offer to the 2nd highest bidder but I think this will be a breach of Ebay rule...

Well, you could always get his details through Ebay which should include an up to date phone number and call them to see if they want to proceed.

You shouldn't offer it to the second bidder at this stage because your buyer could report you & neg you.

At this stage I think you were right not to divulge your address.

And just in case you don't know - only accept cash on collection, don't accept paypal.
