New Seller...what settings would you advise ?

Hello.
I have been a long time buyer on e-bay but I have had a big clear out and going to sell some of the stuff I have previously bought which I have never worn. Clothing and shoes.
I have set my seller preferences to not accept outside the UK, people without a paypal account (wasn't too sure about that one) and those with negative feedback and non-payers.
Is there anything else that you would suggest that I should do? I'm not really sure what other options there are. Or would you say that I am being over cautious.
Thanks
Kath

I would say you are being as cautious as you should be. Those settings should keep real trouble makers at bay.
For full PayPal protection you just need to stick to the rules for only posting to the PayPal address (the address that comes through when the buyer pays).
If someone pays for something and asks you to ship it ship it to a different address, advise that you will need to refund the payment so they can add the address to their account and pay again.0 -
I'm glad to see you have already found the setting to block non payers, make sure you go for those with 2 strikes in a 12 month period.
Lets get rid of these time wasters who buy stuff and never pay, drives me to distraction.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have these restrictions and am always getting stupid messages, this is the one from last night.
I was going to buy two of these from you and pay by PayPal. Because you have a restriction limiting people you have a certain neg feedback or whatever it is on your listing I was unable to purchase so I had to buy from someone else. You have lost out on a purchase. If u remove these restrictions I will definatly purchase from you as I get through a lot of your products and would probably spend at least £100 a month on it.
I would rather miss out on the sale than have time wasters.0 -
I also get little pleading emails explaining that they are really good buyers but that they just forgot to pay for one or two things for a day or two and now seem to be blocked.
Yes, riiight....so glad my blocks work.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've also been getting a couple of apologetic (:rotfl:) emails saying that it really just slipped their mind to pay and were a good buyer really, "see my 100% feedback"and if I could tell ebay they had paid as it was a genuine mistake then they could use ebay again... (etc, you get the idea)
Strikes me they're hitting a wall of being blocked from a lot of auctions.0 -
I would consider opening up the market a bit and selling abroad. About 30% of my sales go overseas.
I would block Italy and Russia though!0 -

Have sold many items to Italy in the past without problem.
Sold and sent 2 items to Russia - no problem with those either.
I have had problems with Spain ("Where is my item") and rural parts of Holland and France (Postal Delays).
Had 3 messages from Spanish buyers to pack extremely well as their postpersons do not take care and they had received broken items.
Currently having problems with 2 items to Australia which in my experience (12+ years selling online) has had the fastest and most reliable postal service. These could of course be due to our own dear Royal Mail losing them before they left the UK.
In general I seem to get no more problems with overseas mail than within UK but when they do occur they are usually more serious as they tend to be higher value items and time scales are prolonged.0
