Yes in 97 I had a break down and was put on the sick for 6 months taking Prozac for well over a year, Even started crying to a bankruptcy bloke I phoned for advice (me a 27 year old bloke at the time) he even phoned me back a few minutes later to see if I was alright..Still get bouts of depression now and again but I am free of the Prozac....:j:TWE ARE DEBT FREE:T:j0

Yes!!!!!!! I am very very stressed at the mo and am so close to hiding under the duvet and not getting out. It is not just the debt tho its the reason for the debt which is lack of money and I just cant get out of it. I HATE BEING POOR.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0

My daughter was a single parent struggling with spiralling debt.Which we ,her family new nothing about. The first I knew of a problem was when a friend of my daughter phoned me (Day after I left my job!) I wont go into details but their were serious mental health problems.Including anxiety and o.c.d
To cut a long story short Daughter saw Drs, counsilers mental health nurses nobody seemed able to help. I became aware of Daughters debt and we as a family were able to help her with that. She could see light at the end of the tunnel and is sooo much better now, not completely "mended" but better. So yes debt does cause mental health problems as far as I am concerned.
That seems to be the problem with me, Unfortunatly I don't have my parents to help0 -

Yes I can totally relate to that. Having no money is another major factor, even the simple things like renting a DVD are out the window for us0 -
Yes,
It wasn't the cause of my PND but I'm sure it made it worse. I am also sure that I overspent in an attempt to 'feel better' which didn't work. (nothing like stating the obvious is there?)

Same as myself, I overspend now and again to make me feel better, but in the long run it makes me feel worse, so its hard to know what to do0 -
Definitely, I am soooo stressed out about how much I owe I even wrote a letter to my husband and little girl in the event something happened to me. It is constantly on my mind. I got into debt through my own spending when I was feeling down, then couldn't pay bills so used one card to pay another and so on, this is why I am in so much debt now. Meeting with CCCS on Monday and hopefully they will be able to help me, cannot do this on my own as it seems like a mountain to climb.Went BR 25th May 2007 at 12.33, OR Interview now done. BSC No 880

Just to bring out the psychological side of it. It can't exactly cause mental health problems but it can definitely make symptoms a lot worse.
The reason it continues to get you down even when you've admitted it can be put down to several reasons, depends on you as a person which you think fits you best.
One is, a negative mental attitude - you think of your debt as negative so you feel negative about it.
Another would be that your environment (society, media etc) makes you feel that you have to spend so you feel that you aren't reaching your full potential which can cause depressive symptoms. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
It didn't cause my mental health problems but I do know that money problems have worsened them and triggered relapses xx0
