BT False Contract

We are currently in a dispute with BT over a new contract we took out after many years of loyalty to BT we moved house and decided to stay with them. we recieved shockingly poor service and a phone line that was broken more than it worked. we could not get things sorted after many calls to BT's overseas call centres. after being promised many times that we would be called back but hearing nothing we ended up having to cancel the contract to get a service from another provider.
BT claim that because we broke the contract we owe them over £160 for a service we never recieved. we have gone through their complaints process but after a good will offer from them to 'credit our account' with £65 they have now decided to 'deadlock' the issue and will not pass it further up the complaint ladder.
we feel we have a case because BT never honoured their sde of the contract and so should compensate us rather than the other way round.
Be very wary of agreeing anything with BT they will not do what they say and will try and take money from you for the privellage, we have even been threatened with debt collectors to try and scare us into paying up.

Er, YOU agreed terms - and broke them. You cannot unilaterally decide to terminate and switch suppliers and expect no repercussions. Where their call centre is is of no consequence.
They have agreed a gesture of goodwill and you accepted it - the matter is concluded. If you wished to pursue this in any meaningful way, this should have been rejected and see what the dispute resolution brings.
There was nothing 'false' about your contract. Further, unless you switched to Cable, you are still with BT, you just get our bills from someone else the wires, exchange and connection are the same as they've ever been!0 -
If you take it further via the Ombudsman then you may end up without even your £65 credit-your choice.

We would agree with you if it was as simple as just leaving BT to change provider out of choice. However it wasn't like that we had put up with a fault on our phone and broadband for a month. Our daughter is doing her gcse's this year and she was trying to do mock exams online and she would get part way through and down went the broadband and gone went her work. We then proceeded to call BT everyday for a whole week to ask when they were planning to fix the fault - nobody would sort out any engineer to come out to us or give a date they refused to believe there was a fault and then one so called manager promised he would sort it and the next day we had a message on the answer phone from him to say he had fixed it from his end. Funnily enough the fault was still there.
BT broke there contract to us long before we cancelled with them. Our cancellation was a last resort we needed a phone and broadband that we could use.0 -
Incorrect, because there is no SLA on a residential line contract. All you are entitled to is a credit for the downtime. It does not mean that you can void your contract without charge.
5 working days is the normal minimum for OR to fix a line fault. 20 days is cleary very bad, but not impossible-it all depends on the nature of the fault.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
