I have used Camp America in the past. I was placed in a camp in upstate New York and had a great time.
I would suggest your son look into other companies though as CA is one of the most expensive. Try CCUSA, BUNAC or Camp Leaders. They all do exactly the same thing as CA but charge less and pay a little more, or at least the did back when I went in 2008.
I think they are all based in London, so have local reps (usually past-participants), who conduct their interviews, that's why it'll be in a cafe. Just be prepared though - there will be extra charges - not least the visa-fee!0 -
it is camp leaders sorry, are these ok0

As I say I went through Camp America (and then changed to CCUSA in my second year) so could talk more about them that Camp Leaders, but I do know 1 person who came to my camp through CL and they were happy with them.
I believe all the agencies offer the same sort of service (again I've not been for a few years so this might have changed):
Matching to a camp
Advice/Sponsorship of J-1 visa to US
Return flights to New York, and usually one-way travel to camp
A mid-season visit from an agency rep to see how you're getting on at camp
Toll-free phone line to contact them when you're in the US if you have any problems
Short answer: yes. They are legit and will help your son get to a camp and have a great summer.0
