I have just been changed over to Outlook from Hotmail and while I wasn't keen on Hotmail, I hate Outlook.
Can anyone tell me how to make my columns smaller, I can make them bigger but not smaller so that means I cannot see the whole of my messages.
This a short time fix until I have notified all my contacts of a new email address

Can't help as I don't like it either.
But since you don't like it why not switch to another. I started using Gmail a couple of years ago. Never had any problems with it.
It only takes a few minutes and you can still use your old Hotmail address to send and receive messages so no need to update everyone.0 -

Just a thought - does 'zooming out' in your browser fix your temporary problem?
With the browser open on screen hold down control and +/- to soom in and out (or hold control and use the mouse scroll wheel if you have one)
You mention you are switching to a new email service so I guess the problem will eventually disappear for you.
By the way, I just tried finding a similar setting for manual column width in Gmail and couldn't find one there either. There are settings for cosy/compact/comfortable which changes the columns to predetermined settings though.0 -
Thanks Ant555 for that info about the control +/- to zoom in and out, I didn't know that. I sometimes have a similar problem with Yahoo.0

I have just logged into my hotmail today and its been changed without my knowlege or consent to outlook....im livid!
I dont like it one bit and its a horrible layout with adchoice popping up, its driving me mad.
Who can I change to please thats similar to hotmail? I only access email on a laptop so dont have any fancy iphone gadget type thingys. Just want a simple email layout without load of other rubbish there,
Many Thanks

Hi,
I just put the following into another post on the same subject.
" I could not stand the new Outlook either. Not a smooth format and kunky when sending mail.
I downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and am happy now.
Very easy to use and converts easily, picking up your current Email address.

Thanks Lancastrian, this is the first post I came across regarding this, maybe they all need to be merged together.
I will give that a go and hope I find it as easy as hotmail was. Whats annoyed me most is the fact im forced to change, the fact that I had no choice over MY OWN email.
I would not stay with outlook now even if I liked the layout as its the principal of the matter!!!

Its great you have found something that suits - Thunderbird is a good email client.
Are you still using your hotmail email address with Thunderbird or have you switched email addresses?
Thunderbird might not suit everyone though - especially if a person has multiple devices that they want to view their messages on such as an iPad, smartphone and/or lap top.0 -
I'm still with Hotmail and on my very old account.
Thunderbird works well and is similar to the old windows format but better.
If I log on with a non Thunderbird computer I have to use Outlook but it does mean I can stay in touch from anywhere in the world.
I have used some of the embedded options to make it to my taste.
If you don't mind I'll put this on the other thread as well0 -
I have now switched to Mozilla Thunderbird email, I like it and no daft ads popping up just a bog standard email. I have kept my hotmail address so thankfully dont have to let everybody know have a new email address which would be a nightmare.
Thanks Lancastrian
