    Most semi's and in houses with more than one chimney for that matter, the bricks ( mid feathers ) that line between the flues are only one brick thick.

    Yes both could be faulty but how do you know which side is faulty in that case ? twas you that said it was their flue that was faulty. And like I also said it may well not be a faulty flue at all.

    Start off with capping off the chimney thats the cheaper option, then if the smoke persists time for a pressure test in the ops house to see if its the ops chimney that is leaking or its next doors.

    But if it is the neighbour who has started to burn fuel in her grate it is the neighbour who is creating the nuisance and should be responsible for checking the flue condition before doing so. I get the feeling the grates have probably not been used for some time and if so the neighbour should have had them checked as they could have been totally blocked with debris and had serious consequences.
